The Immortal Baby

In 1939 a cult named the Royal Fraternity of Master Metaphysicians decided to conduct an experiment for immortality using a baby. The cults leader, James Schafer, decided on Jean Gauntt, whose mother believed she was too poor at the time to raise Jean. Her mother gave Schafer permission to take and raise the baby. Jean was raised in Schafer’s mansion for fifteen months. She was never to hear anything negative about death or sickness, or anything negative at all, and was only ever surrounded with positive things. She was also raised on an “eternity diet” of a vegetarian nature. After fifteen months, Jean’s mother decided she was stable enough to raise her child and sent out an ultimatum to Schafer, demanding her child back. They gave Jean back willingly, but asked the parents to keep raising Jean on her “eternity diet.” The parents did not seem to want to raise an immortal baby, however, and did not keep the diet.
