Pokemon Mustelid Series: Oshawott Line

theastronott:

In this post, we introduced the parallels between Pokémon and real life mustelids, showing how a number of Pokémon get their inspiration from animals in that family, such as weasels, ferrets, and otters.

We have already looked at how the Slowpoke line may be interpreted as a Pokémon equivalent of the Giant River Otter

and
how the Buizel line may be interpreted as a Spotted Necked Otter. Today, in our final post of this series, we will look at the
the Oshawott line, a Pokémon clearly having roots in the sea otter (Enhydra lutris).

GOP is happy to spend billions on Trump’s wall. Here’s what they wouldn’t pay for.

  • Trump is seeking billions of federal dollars to pay for his border wall between the United States and Mexico — an $8 to $14-billion price tag.
  • Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday he’s happy to foot the bill, even without a clear revenue source.
  • Yet for the past eight years, Republicans railed against bills that had hefty price tags and no clear source of funding
  • Including:
    • Health care for 9/11 first responders
    • Hurricane Sandy aid
    • The Flint water crisis
    • Zika virus funding
  • Only 37% of Americans support the border wall. Read more

this years holocaust remembrance day is very important, given the current political climate. take today to remember the horrifying acts committed against jewish and romani people. take today to recognize the beginning of those same acts forming against PoC in america today. take today to resist those in power however you see fit, and after today, dont stop resisting. i am a jew still personally affected by the holocaust even 2 generations later. every jew is affected by the shoah, but there is a special pain to know what happened to your own family. or worse, not knowing what happened to the unknown people you see in old family photographs. we as a people will never be the same. remember the holocaust today. dont let this happen again.

non-jews are absolutely allowed/encouraged to reblog this

Since there are no date stamps on tumblr I wanted to add that Holocaust Remembrance Day is today. Jan 27th.

PHILADELPHIA—Repeatedly chastising himself for making such a foolish decision, area man Anthony Vasquez reportedly spent all day Friday dreading the fun activity he had signed up for. “Goddamn it, I’ve only got two hours left before I have to go out and do this stupid thing,” Vasquez said of the enjoyable leisure activity that he had voluntarily paid $70 for, told multiple friends about, and has been looking forward to for the past three weeks. “What the hell was I thinking? I have to take the train all the way downtown, stand in line, and then probably talk to people afterwards. Maybe it’ll get canceled at the last minute or something.” At press time, a reluctant Vasquez had grudgingly left his apartment, taking small comfort in knowing the fun activity would at least soon be over.

Today, on International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the world bows its head in memory of 11 million lives lost; 11 million people who lived, learned, thrived, struggled, laughed, worked and loved.

Today, we remember 11 million people who were stripped of their individuality and humanity, and we say: Never again.
