This is the Brazilian Pinkbloom Tarantula. They grow to a length of 9 cm, although specimens of 11 cm have been recorded. Females are dark brown/black but mature males have this incredible purple/pink hue that makes them highly prized in the arachnid aficionado community. (Source)

You guys have been so wonderful that I feel like I should tell you the story behind this photo. This was the day that I changed. I’d spent about a year buying bikinis but until then, I’d only had the courage to wear them in my room. This photo was taken by my mother while we were in the Florida Keys. I woke up that morning and simply decided that today was the day I would stop apologizing for my body. Apparently confidence is contagious because my gorgeous mother decided that she wanted to wear one too and my sister debuted a super cute crop top! We had a blast, took amazing pictures and had a fantastic day! I really can’t say whether or not anyone had a negative reaction because I was too busy enjoying my life to care. I like to think that this photo is the most authentic representation of the type of person that I strive to be.
I believe that beauty is something that you’re born with, it’s not something that you can “earn” because it’s always there. Everyone has it in equal amounts, but a lot of us have a hard time believing that it’s there. Let’s make authentic beauty the norm! If we celebrate one another and delight in our differences, we’ll all have the best time! (To clarify, by authentic I mean beauty as it exists in the world, and not as it is created in post-production.)
